Summer 2009 Camp Line-Up
Our summer special: Sign–up for a camp and receive a coupon for $10 off open studio projects or classes. Coupons will be issued after full-payment has been made and must be presented to be redeemed. Use by 10/31/09. Valid only on registrations made through Wonderworks and do not apply to camps held off-site or registrations made through the recreation departments. Open Studio in the Summer We invite you to join us M-F at the studio during our summer months to paint pottery, do decoupage, make clay pots or figures, stuff animals and more.There is a $5 sitting fee per participant, plus the price of the project. Projects start at $5. Hours are from 10-5. Call to confirm any other time. We also have open studio Sunday on June 28, July 5 & Aug. 23 12-5pm, All Ages welcome ! June 28 12:30-2:00 Copper Enameling $ 15, 3:30-5:00Mosaic Boards $35/$60 Art Camp- an all day experience where you can learn art concepts and designs while having a great time. We will be using clay, plaster & paper mache to sculpt with. Design and execution of your own ‘ugly doll’, as well as drawing, painting and our annual painting in the park day. Students are grouped by age. Bring a drink, peanut free snack and lunch. Grades 1-8. June 15-19 or August 17-21 or 24-28, 9am-4pm, Fee $295 Project Runway 2 For those who know how to sew and those who want to learn, we will have a fun week of creating many things out of fabric. Machine and hand sewing will be taught, while making our own sock dolls. (These can be challenging!) We will make our own tote bags, while learning to read patterns, have a design challenge using the campers in the class. If you took this camp last year, you will have all new projects and skills to learn. Grades 4-8, July 27-31, 1-4pm, Fee $160 Wood & Lego Camp For those who like to build with their hands and think, this is the ultimate experience. We will not only safely use hand tools to build free form and patterned designs out of wood, but we will also have thousands of Lego’s on hand and many different challenges. Grades 2-5, July 6-10, 9-12pm, Fee $ 160 American Girl Sports and Games Learn to play the games that Josefina, Felicity, Molly and all the American Girls did while having fun with new and old friends. Bring your favorite American Girl Doll too! We will also read from the books and make some great projects too! Camp meets at Wonderworks, and then heads over to the park on Lincoln Ave. Bring a snack & drink (no nut products) June 22-26 9am-12pm, Kaya’s World Join us for an exciting week of discovering what American Girl Doll, Kaya lived like. Everyone will create her own life size doll teepee, as well as have a peak into what her life would have been like in 1764. Many projects, as well as reading her books will happen. Bring any of your American Girl Dolls this week. Grades k-6, June 29-July 2 (4 days) 1-4pm, Fee $ 130, Sign-up through Bloomfield Hills Rec. 248-433-0885 held at East Hills Middle School. Camp Tinkerbelle Do you love Tinkerbelle and her fairy friends? We will create our own fairies using our Wonderworks Pixie Magic, Pixie Hollow here we come! Transform ordinary materials into a whimsical mushroom fairy house and make really cute fairy accessories. Grades K-5, June 22-26, 1-4pm, Fee $155 Sweet Treats Cooking Camp Cooking Bring along your sweet taste buds for this delicious camp! We will concentrate on preparing deserts, such as pies and cookies, while teaching proper cooking techniques. No peanut products will be used. Camp held at EHMS home ec. room. Sign-up through Bloomfield Hills Rec. 248-433-0885. Limited to 12 kids. Held at East Hills Middle School. June 29-July 2, (4 days) 9am-12pm grades 3-8 $180. Hansel and Gretel’s Candy Cottage Imagine a miniature replica of Hansel and Gretel’s cottage complete with candy decorating the outside. We will create this whimsical house using a real good toys cottage kit, a lot of paint, glue, wallpaper, clay and of course imagination! Everyone will go home with their own unique design. Detail oriented is a must, but the effort is well worth the smiles when they have completed a whole house in one week. Bring a peanut free lunch. Grades 3-8, July 6-10, 9-4pm. Sign-up early, limited to 10. Fee $ 290 Crafty Divas Do you love glitter and sparkle? This week is for those who believe that a few jewels and glitter is just not enough! We will make unbelievable glitter shirts, sparkly word boxes, shimmering lip-gloss and more! We will also hold a Fancy Nancy Day celebration. Grades k-6, July 13-17, 9-12pm Fee $ 165 American Girl Doll Cradle & Quilt The cutest doll cradle that fits both American Girl Dolls and Bity Baby will be transformed by you into a cozy place for them to sleep and underneath a quilt that you make as well! We will enjoy learning about American Girl Dolls by sharing their books and we will create a memory book of our favorite A.G. dolls. Grades k-6,July 13-17,1-4pm, Fee $ 165 Weird and Wacky Science Science and art go hand and hand in this camp. Super slime, sand castle clay, jewel & gem goop are some of the cool concoctions that will astound and amaze you. Great for kids who like a hands-on art experience and like to figure out how things work. Grades k-5, July 20-24, 9-12pm or Aug. 31- Sept. 4 1-4pm, Fee $ 155 Monsters, Robots & Aliens Take me to your leader so I can make lots of strange and wonderful creatures! Using wood, paper, plaster and plastic we will create a variety of monsters and aliens. Jug head monsters, lunar modules and more will be made, as well as shooting off bottle rockets in the park! Grades 1-5, July 20-24, 1-4pm, Fee $ 155 Art Time/Play Time led by our merry staff of extraordinary crafters, the young ones will have fun doing hands-on projects that will use a lot of paint, glue and of course, their imagination! Interspersed in all of this will be great games for all. Ages 3-6 (must be potty trained), Tues, Wed., Thurs. 10-12pm, July 28,29,30 or Aug. 11,12,13 Fee $90 Puppet Workshop It takes a lot of imagination to come up with your own original puppet, to find its ‘voice’ and create its own character. Starting with some smaller puppet projects, such as marionettes, sock and found objects puppets, we will build up to designing our own puppets and put on our own show. If there is a writer in the group perhaps an original script will also emerge from our camp. A puppet theater of our own will also be made. Grades 1-6, Aug. 10-14, 1-4pm, Fee $160 Camp Candy Land Everything sweet will happen this week, like gumball machines & candy picture frames. Clay candy is great fun to make and play with and of course chocolate making is always a sweet ending! We will play games too as part of our camp. Barnyard Buddies Moo, woof, oink & art! We will make our own stuffed animals, paint pottery, construct our own piggy banks out of recycled materials and have fun playing outdoor games. There are so many furry critters that live in the barnyard that the sky’s the limit on all that we can do this week! Grades k-5, June 29-July 3 1-4pm or Aug. 3-7, 9-12pm, Fee $ 155 Scrap booking and Design Learn how to do calligraphy, as well as create your own fonts and lettering designs. Bring lots of photos to make your own scrapbook that we will work on while adding our new lettering ideas. A great camp for those who love to doodle and draw, incorporated into scrapbook design. Grades 3-8, Aug. 3-7, 1-4pm, Fee $ 155 Teen Art- Balloon Dart Art Once a year we allow this ultra fun and messy event to happen. Sign-up with a friend and create really unique art t-shirts while throwing darts at paint filled balloons. Come dressed for mess! Ages 11-14, $21 (t-shirts included).
